The objectives of the project were the following: - To strengthen and develop consumer protection in Cyprus, in line with the EU directives, standards and practices, regarding consumer protection issues;
- To increase public awareness and sensitivity and promote active citizenship on consumer related issues through better-educated consumers;
- To foster the development of the Cyprus Consumers Association (CCA) as a self-sustaining civil society organization and upgrade the level of its services in the line with the standard provided by consumers associations in the EU, as well as enhance its role monitoring the effective implementation of the EU directives on consumer protection;
- To promote the establishment of a continuous channel of communication with the Turkish Cypriot Association for the Protection of Consumer Rights (TUHAK) which will facilitate the exchange of information, experiences and the development of fruitful co-operation for addressing the needs of consumers in both communities of Cyprus;
- To foster co-operation and networking with the Health and Consumer Protection Directorate-General of the European Commission as well as with independent consumers associations in the EU.
